FREIGHT TIPS
Decide what your priorities are.
  • Do you need to get your goods there as fast as possible?
  • Is cost the most important factor?  Shipping goods by rail is often a little slower than road transport but may save dollars.
  • Do you need insurance?
  • Do you need to track and trace your consignment through its journey?
  • Do you have a large consignment that will take a day to load? If so we can arrange to have a company leave a trailer for loading for a pre-arranged period.
  • Can your goods be loaded on pallets or do you need us to arrange for container hire?

Make sure:
  • Goods are clean.  For example, engines and automotive parts should be free of oil.
  • Goods are securely strapped on a pallet to eliminate movement during transport.
  • Goods for the same destination are secured on the same pallet.
  • A fork lift is available at both the pick up point and at the destination.
  • Goods are ready for loading at any time during normal business hours on the day of pick up.
  • The goods are clearly labelled showing the address of their destination.
  • The labels are easy to read – A4 size is best.

Transport Tips

The following information contains just a few simple ideas on how you can help NATIONAL FREIGHT MANAGEMENT & its FREIGHT FORWARDERS to ensure that your freight is delivered on-time, in-full and intact.

HOW TO PACKAGE FREIGHT

Your valuable items will often be travelling thousands of kilometres and handled many times before final delivery. The way in which you package these goods is critical to how they will appear at the final destination. Key things to watch are:

  • Palletised goods should ideally be shrink-wrapped to the pallet to avoid them moving while in transit
  • Cartons should be strong enough to take the weight inside, and no more than 25kg each unless on a pallet
  • Any products containing glass should be bubble-wrapped, crated or similar and marked “Fragile – Contains Glass”
  • Engines, Gear Boxes etc should be secured to a pallet and oil/fuel drained prior to shipping
  • Long freight that is fragile and subject to damage if bent should be reinforced with timber to minimise flex
  • Ensure that incompatible Dangerous Goods are not mixed together on a pallet
